We’re All Going To The World’s Fair

We’re All Going To The World’S Fair, which has opened in select cities, is a spooky horror film. Based on the premise of an online role-playing game, the movie explores the loneliness of modern life. The film is full of cliches, but the central theme is that internet connection creates isolation and loneliness. A young girl named Casey Cobb is a prime example of a lonely, manipulative teen. In the film, she scrolls through videos of weird World’s Fair Challenge results to learn about what makes them tick. Schoenbrun leaves it up to the viewer to figure out why she is doing this, and whether or not she is influenced by the videos.

While Casey is a teenager, she decides to participate in a strange online role-playing horror game. She performs an initiation for the ‘World’s Fair Challenge’ and waits to see if Casey is really acting out her role. She eventually begins recording videos of herself in an effort to document her experiences. Meanwhile, an unknown stranger begins to take interest in her online content.
